Foundation for Growth
The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa which stands at a little over 829 meters high. To build a structure that tall, the engineers first had to dig very deep down into the earth to ensure that the building of this size is supported by solid foundations. In the case of the Burj Khalifa, the foundations are 50 meters deep with a 3.7-meter-thick raft foundation, 192 bored piles, 45,000 m3 of concrete, weighing more than 110,000 tonnes.
Without foundations of this strength and depth, the building even with a world class finishing, would not have been fit for purpose. The building would have been unsafe and at risk of collapse.
